In essence

  1. 보다 중요한 것 · Boda jungyohan geot — the more important thingFor Adam the supremely important thing was God’s word and God himself, and becoming wholly one with both—a standard the Fall destroyed.
  2. 천주주의 · 天宙主義 · Cheonjujuui — Cosmos-ismNeither democracy nor communism but a God-centered doctrine uniting heaven (mind) and earth (body), the final ideology Adam and Eve were meant to fulfill.
  3. 유심 · 유물 · 唯心唯物 · yusim yumul — idealism and materialismThe democratic and communist worlds are mind and body torn apart, repeating Adam and Eve’s position between God and Satan in Eden.
  4. 본심으로 안다 · 本心 · bonsim — knowing by original mindUnfallen humanity would know God instinctively through blood lineage—no argument or explanation needed—as a newborn suckles without ever being taught.
  5. 출발점 · 出發點 · chulbaljeom — the starting pointWhat matters most is where you begin; a flawed starting point corrupts even flawless effort, as bad seed in spring yields a bad harvest.
  6. 7수 복귀역사 · 七數 · chilsu — restoration by the number sevenHumanity lost the sabbath seventh number at the Fall; God recovers it across 7,000-, 700-, and 70-year cycles, which the Messiah compresses into seven years.
  7. 재림주는 부모로 오신다 · 再臨主 · jaerimju — the returning Lord comes as parentAn individual savior cannot redeem the world; the Lord must return bodily as a parent, taking a bride to complete what Eden left undone.

Former Headquarters Church

Romans 8:18

3

The first ancestors of humankind, having received God’s command in the Garden of Eden, were in an important position in which they had to keep that command along with their lives. That very position was more important than anything else.

4

Yet because the first ancestors of humankind failed to keep that position, human history began miserably; that is, we know well the fact that, through the Fall, they brought about a world of results that God did not desire.

01What Was More Important for Adam

5

Then, what was more important for Adam?

6

It was God’s Word and God Himself. And what was the next most important thing? It was for him to become one with God’s Word and with God. Had the first ancestors of humankind set out on such a standard, there would have been nothing better for us than that. Had such a standard been settled, God’s Word would be within us, and God Himself would also be within us. That is, while God Himself dwells within us, we could become one with God.

7

Although this important standard was to be granted to humankind, because the first ancestors of humankind forgot that more important standard and brought about the less important result of the Fall, the humankind that lives today amid the bond of that result stands not in a more important place but in a less important place.

8

In other words, we stand not in a place where our minds can rejoice and where hope can dwell, but live amid a despair in which the mind is sorrowful, and there is no hope. You know well that it has become such a world of results.

9

God cannot but again save humankind that has fallen into such a position, and humankind too cannot but grope its way along the road of escaping from such a position and once again recovering the standard that was needed in the original world. And it is the process of human history that has groped its way along such a road. God, following such a bond of Providence, has established religion upon this earth, and human beings have sought God through religion. Thus, this world has now become the final world.

10

What all humankind throughout the whole world must seek today is the more important thing that the human ancestors lost in the Garden of Eden. That is, the time has come when we cannot but seek God’s Word and God.

11

You must know the fact that the more the world becomes a final world, the more we are heading toward an age in which this is urgently required.

12

Then, what is it that all humankind throughout the world is seeking in the present age?

13

What humankind has been seeking until now, even if only vaguely, is the internal, that is, the spiritual, and further, the ideological and the ideal. In other words, not the external but the internal; not the material but the ideal. It is these things that it has been seeking.

02The Confrontation of Idealism and Materialism Caused by the Fall

14

Then, what is the center of that ideal thing, which is not material?

15

It is the truth. That is why, then, what has human history until now been seeking? It has been seeking truth. That is, it has been seeking one individual whom truth aims for, one family whom truth aims for, and one tribe, people, and nation whom truth aims for. This has come to appear worldwide as a single doctrine and thought.

16

In other words, humankind has been seeking a new ideology through which truth can be communicated, and a new world of thought centered on that ideology.

17

Therefore, you must not be separated from that thought and ideology, from that truth. That ideology and truth and your body must become one. Yet the body alone must not merely become one. Centered on that truth, we must establish what was more important for us, that is, the standard by which we were to become one with God through God’s Word in the Garden of Eden. Unless that standard is completely recovered, human beings cannot settle the more important thing.

18

Then, what is the final point of departure at which the pursuit of an ideology can be resolved?

19

It is God’s Word. That is, we must know the fact that history has developed until now to settle the standard by which the truth humankind is seeking and the truth God intended to establish come to agree, and that agreed truth can become one with God.

20

Corresponding to this standard of truth, the external world too has developed. In other words, the material world, too, has developed. This is the part that science has been carrying.

21

Then, what is the gold standard that we must finally attain?

22

It is the truth God intends to establish. Centered on that truth, God and man must become one. That is, unless the standard by which Adam and Eve, the first ancestors of humankind, were to become one in Eden is completed, however much human beings may long for it, they cannot achieve the purpose of that hope.

23

History until now has developed toward such a purpose. Thus, what was set up as one means and expedient for achieving the proposed world is doctrine and thought.

24

Here, what is centered on the material aspect is materialism, and what is centered on the spiritual aspect is idealism. Democracy has been developing centered on religion and culture, which are ideals.

25

Humankind remains amid the confrontation of these two thoughts. This is the same state as when Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden, were in the middle zone between God and Satan.

26

That is, you must know that we have entered the process of once again seeking our way, now worldwide, into the original standard of Eden, where the boundary line arose between the parents born with the bond of original nature and the fallen parents, between people of original nature and evil people.

03Human Beings Who Must Become One with God

27

What must all humankind throughout the world do today?

28

They must become people who long for and set out to seek the command God gave, “Do not eat,” that is, the truth that can agree with God’s Word of truth. And they must become people who can become one together with this truth.

29

Only when there is a person who has become one with the truth can humankind, centered on that person, become one with God.

30

The Word by which God told human beings, “Do not eat,” was, when seen centered on God, one on the internal side but not one on the external side. Through whom is that oneness of the external side to be achieved?

31

It is achieved through a human being. Had the human being not fallen originally, he would have become the God who wears an external substance. Because one person arises who can agree with God’s internal truth, the standard that was one on the internal side becomes one, centered on the external human being.

32

Only then does God Himself become the perfected body of truth, and at the same time, the human being, too, equipping himself with the perfected body of truth, becomes one with God.

33

Yet through the Fall, this was shattered into fragments. The Word that God had established fell away, and Adam and Eve, that is, the ancestors of goodness who were to become one with God through the Word, were also shattered.

34

Thus, the first ancestors of humankind failed to become the ancestors of goodness, and because humankind became fallen descendants, they did not possess that standard.

35

Therefore, God, following the purpose of the Providence, seeks through the course of the Providence of Restoration, or of salvation, one ancestor of humankind who can come into contact with that standard of truth.

36

Originally, if the ancestors of humankind had become completely one with the truth God had established and formed a oneness with God, the first standard that God valued above all else in the Garden of Eden and that humankind could value would have been settled.

37

Yet the first ancestors of humankind lost this. Because they lost it, they were divided into the internal side and the external side. The human being was the standard that was to take charge of the external side, but because this human being fell, the external standard and the internal standard came to be completely divided.

38

In other words, because the standard by which the internal and external could be unified was lost, the internal standard and the external standard came to be divided from each other.

39

Thus Heaven and earth were divided, and human beings and God were also divided. This earth and human beings, who were to be the original human beings and the original earth, came to the result of not being the original human beings and not being the original earth.

40

Therefore, when God looks upon them, human beings are divided as human beings, and the earth is divided as the earth. Everything was shattered into fragments.

04The History of Restoration to Form the Standard of Oneness Among God, Man, and Earth

41

The history of Restoration until now has been God’s working to gather this world, which has been placed in such a position, and to make a standard by which God, man, and earth can become one.

42

This is the most important thing when seen by God, and the most important thing when seen by human beings as well. This standard must be sought.

43

Looking at world history, what kind of time is now?

44

Ultimately, the internal and the external must be brought to a result in which they can respond to each other, but now is a time when the internal and the external clash with each other. This is the actual world, and it is precisely the time when democracy and communism fight.

45

Democracy is centered on the ideology of religion and has the system and foundation of the nation, but communism does not have an idealist view of history, but a materialist view of history. The materialist view of history is material and external, whereas the idealist view of history is internal.

46

Yet now is not a time when the internal and the external correspond, but a time when they clash with each other. A time has come when, try as they might to unite, they cannot possibly unite.

47

Then what must be done?

48

How can a world placed in mutually opposed positions come to stand in a position where it can unite?

49

Here, a new internal standard must without fail be sought. As a result of passing through history, this world has become an internal standard, but this is not a complete internal standard. Therefore, this must be shifted once again into a complete one. And so we must pursue a complete internal standard.

50

In the course of human history, to prepare for such a time, God drove countless people into the sphere of religion, centered on religion. Religion becomes one external foundation, and God Himself becomes the internal foundation; and in the course of history, God draws religion out in a new coloring, to unite the new internal standard and the new external standard into one and thereby gather the external standard.

51

For this purpose, God has been carrying out the Providence for six thousand years until now, developing countless religions; and you must know the fact that He has given the Messiah-thought, which is the center of those developed religions, and has been preparing a new worldwide foundation on the external side.

52

God does not intend to gather the world centered on such things as the external ideology of the materialist view of history or the internal ideology of the idealist view of history. Because God knows that we cannot set out into a new world without settling the internal and external standards in a new realm centered on God, He has been pressing forward such a Providence until now.

53

What kind of world is it that religion hopes for?

54

It is neither the world the communist world pursues nor the world the democratic world pursues. Religion has been coming forth, hoping for a oneness of the internal side and the external side upon a new standard.

55

What are the contents of the scriptures that most religions teach?

56

They have contents isolated from the world. All of them have been teaching content opposed to the world. That is, every religion, centered on a certain time, teaches people to live for the sake of that time.

57

Then, what kind of time is that?

58

It is not a time that greets the world of the internal and external standards of the fallen world, but a time in which the original internal standard and original external standard that God can establish, beyond this world, can come into contact.

59

You must know the fact that to prepare that one time, religion has developed through the course of history, and God has carried out the Providence.

05The Time When a New Standard Is Required

60

Then, what kind of time is it today?

61

It is the Last Days (말세).

62

In the Last Days, how must one act to become one of the band that remains without receiving judgment?

63

By valuing the present internal standard and external standard, one cannot remain. Such a band cannot but become a band that is judged.

64

We cannot but grope our way toward a standard that can agree with God through an internal standard greater and an external standard more precious than everything now scattered throughout the world.

65

Bearing such a responsibility, the Unification Movement is what has raised a new movement that did not exist in this world.

66

In presenting the Unification Movement and seeking, centered on our thought, to save the nation and the people, we do not intend to accomplish the purpose centered on what the present democratic world or communist world demands.

67

It is to establish the purpose with an ideology of a new realm, a character of a new realm, and a heart (심정) of a new realm.

68

Then what is that standard?

69

It is for Adam and Eve to become one with God, centered on the Word, without falling in the Garden of Eden. Thus, God’s internal standard and man’s external standard must become one, and a new departure from Eden, that is, the original departure that humankind longed for, must be made. Yet that standard has not yet appeared.

70

Because human beings fell, this too has appeared in forms equipped with inner and outer shapes: materialism and idealism. Here, idealism rather than materialism and the democratic world rather than the communist world are closer to God.

71

When we consider the internal standard and the external standard, the external standard, in other words, this kind of standard within the sphere of religion, must without fail be connected with the democratic world. Only then can the world be saved. That is why religion has been taking a position close to God.

72

Yet being close does not mean it should simply become a position that follows along. Only when man becomes one, centered on God’s purpose and the content of truth, from an equal position, can humankind be perfected and God’s purpose be achieved. This standard must be brought to a conclusion. The central being who came to bring it to a conclusion is the Messiah.

73

Centered on this Messiah, religion, in a new realm, must equip itself with the form of a single doctrine and equip itself with God’s internal standard and the form of the external world, and prepare a time when it can unify today’s democratic and communist worlds. What has come forth bearing such a purpose and mission is the Unification Church.

74

Then, what must you do?

75

You must be bound together and become one with a new ideology centered on God. Thereby, you must become stronger than the union of the external communism and the internal democracy of this satanic world. Otherwise, you cannot save this world.

76

In other words, what has become one with the internal and external standard that God is seeking must be stronger than whatever has become one from what the satanic world is seeking.

77

You must realize and feel this in your original mind, rather than realize it by listening to the Teacher’s words.

06Had We Not Fallen, We Could Have Known God Exists Through Our Original Mind

78

Had humankind not fallen, there would be no need even to ask whether God exists or not. That is known by the original mind. In other words, had the first ancestors of humankind not fallen but appeared amid this universe as the parents of goodness, formed a family, and had that family multiply to become the humankind of this world, there would today be no need for humankind to debate publicly whether God exists or not. Because the bloodline would be connected, they would know at once, even with the body. Just as with a single tree, no explanation would be needed there.

79

If God had created things so that God could be known through explanation, then God would have created wrongly.

80

Originally, no explanation is needed for a human being. The human being, who was to set out from a place where he could simply pass on beyond the process of explanation, because he fell, set out from a position isolated from God and has been spread out at the individual, family, tribe, people, national, and worldwide levels; and so it has become this kind of world that argues over whether God exists or not.

81

Had humankind not fallen but been born through parents' good in original nature, no argument over whether God exists or not would be needed. From the moment of birth, one would know naturally.

82

Does a baby learn how to suckle while still in the womb and then come out?

83

As soon as it is born, if milk is before its eyes, it is set to suck. It is set to know automatically. Had humankind not fallen, they would have known the relationship between God and man automatically, resolved it automatically, and known the position they were to go to automatically.

84

Yet through the Fall, everything was forgotten. And so it has become a world of results that argues over and doubts whether God exists or not. This is a miserable fact.

85

You must know the fact that God, centered on the foundation of religion, has been gathering human beings who do not know, and, passing through a worldwide course of history, has been broadening the foundation of the Providence.

86

Although you sit here saying that you believe in the Unification Church, you must know how greatly God has labored behind the scenes for you to come forth to this place. God, who has fought for thousands of years, has had no time in which He was not miserable.

87

You must know the fact that the new religious movement being waged today, inside and out of the satanic world, is a movement whose priority is the unification of all religions.

88

This is a doctrine and thought that transcends countless sects and countless denominations to form a single religion. This new doctrine and thought are not about doing politics. It is about becoming one with God, together with a new ideology, centered on God.

89

God is internal, and man is external. In other words, man must become the body of God clothed with substance.

90

What is the Fall?

91

The Fall is that God can no longer enter and dwell within our minds. Who entered? Satan entered. This house that Satan has entered must all be torn down. Passing through such a struggle over the course of thousands of years of history, religion has developed.

92

And so, in the Last Days (끝날), the Unification Church has come forth.

93

The Unification Church has not come forth to clap hands with the world and become one with it. It must be different in some way. Therefore, it must come forth possessing content that can be pursued by the original mind of humankind from an ideological standard. Because the final destination that a human being was originally to go to is to be restored to the human being before the Fall in Eden and to settle and live there, even though the human being has fallen, the mind of original nature is always drawing us out toward that place.

94

Today’s world, too, is entering into a world of thought because it is groping for and entering a method by which it can approach that place. In other words, it has entered a world in which, centered on doctrine and thought, it can transcend national boundaries and form a single current. That is, democracy and communism have opened up.

95

Upon this earth, until now, the foundation of believing centered on established religion had been formed, but it has not yet advanced to the standard at which the true God and true man can become one centered on the truth.

07Cosmos-ism (天宙主義)

96

Then, what is it that the Unification Church asserts today?

97

The standard God valued most in the Garden of Eden was to become one centered on the human being, and what was most important for the human being was to become one centered on God’s Word. Because this standard failed to agree, it was divided into fragments. The earth has been gathering this up in its own way, man in his own way, and God in His own way.

98

Setting up the conscience, all ethics are established through the person centered on the conscience, and, centered on the organization of this world, conditions of indemnity have been made.

99

Yet this cannot be done when it stands in a place isolated from God. Now is an age in which we can run up against such a result.

100

When we look upon the world divided inside and out, what is it that we must here consider?

101

It is not something that has become the motive from within itself, but a new ideology. It is not the ideology that the communist world or the democratic world pursues. It is Godism. The Unification Church asserts Cosmos-ism (천주주의, 天宙主義).

102

A doctrine is something that changes. That is, a doctrine is something taken up as a convenient expedient for each occasion. But Cosmos-ism is what comes forth to sift out, holding a single direction, what is more needed toward the purpose.

103

Although we come forth holding a doctrine in this evil world, a doctrine alone will not do. We must prepare a place where the purpose of the doctrine can be achieved.

104

Then, in Cosmos-ism, what is cheonju, the Cosmos?

105

It is Heaven and earth. A person who has become one with God on the internal side and the external side, that is, whose mind symbolizes Heaven and whose body symbolizes the earth, this is the doctrine by which such a person becomes one centered on God.

106

Originally, in the Garden of Eden, Adam, whose body and mind had become one, and Eve, whose body and mind had become one, were to become one centered on God. Thus, if a family on God’s side were formed, God would be present in Adam’s family. This was to be the root of humankind’s hope, yet it was broken and shattered.

107

Thus fallen human beings, floundering without knowing the direction they were to go, have come to the very end of God’s Providence. What teaches the original standard of life to humankind of such an age is the Unification ideology. That is why you have gathered here.

108

The Unification Church is not the same as Christianity. Though there may be points on the internal side by which it communicates with Christianity, it differs from the content of Christianity that has been passed down until now.

109

Though it has with Christianity the bond of having passed through the course of the providential history of the fallen world, it is not a church that will be swayed by that bond. It is not a church that moves by novel words, nor a church to be criticized within some subordinate sphere. It must escape that.

110

From such a position we have come forth, setting God’s heart, God’s character, and God’s Word before us. We have come down bearing content far more enormous than anything that came down in any age of history until now.

111

This is the final goal standard of religion, which all people look toward. Since anyone who believes in religion cannot but hold this goal-standard, Unification believers are setting out from this standard, centered on a new doctrine and thought.

112

The doctrine we assert is neither communism nor democracy. It is a more important doctrine, namely, Cosmos-ism. That doctrine is the final standard of hope that Adam and Eve needed in the Garden of Eden, and the final doctrine. Through this doctrine, God and man become one. That is, God and you become one. Only when this is achieved can the world be gathered up in the days ahead.

113

Contrasted with today’s externally opened democratic and communist worlds, the band of the Unification Church must become people who can handle the world and become the cornerstone that can stand having overcome the world. That is why we are persecuted and reviled. Yet when we consider such a course of history, the Unification Church is not doing this work because it wants to be reviled. It is to establish a new point of departure, a new point of departure for history.

114

That was not achieved, centered on the concepts of any established religion, until now. It set out, having dug into the standard of the internal world that no religion until now was able to dig into. Thus, when it appears upon this earth, it must bear the external responsibility before the absolute God, and before the world, it must not be dominated by anything.

115

It does not belong to the world, nor is it in a position dragged about by any doctrine or thought. That is, it belongs not to the world but to God.

08Long for the Standard of God’s Presence

116

In other words, where were Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to set out from?

117

They were to set out not from a fallen position, but from a position where, without falling, they were perfected and where God could rejoice. Then, how does this fallen result appear in the world of the end? It appears without fail as judgment.

118

Therefore, you must clearly know the point at which you yourselves stand. That point is neither today’s democratic world nor the communist world. This earth, this world in which we live, does not become the Kingdom of Heaven simply by being left as it is. Though you are individuals, you must be people with whom God is together on the internal side and who, on the external side, can equip yourselves with the authority of the lord of all things before the created world, having transcended all things of this universe.

119

Therefore, you must go to God with the original standard by which God can be present. You must long for this. That is why what becomes a problem in the Last Days is false religion.

120

Of Cain and Abel, one of the two must be indemnified. Yet the cultures of today’s democracy and communism are not both good. These are all within the sphere of judgment. The world of culture that you are to love has not yet appeared, so it must be founded by your hands. Therefore, your point is not this world into which you were born, this place. Because this world into which you were born has become an evil world, the present position of the Unification Church, and your point, is a place where you must resolve to escape this standard and establish a new future. You must know that this is more important than anything.

121

Because it holds a value that cannot be exchanged for anything in history, it is by virtue of this that you are living. Still more, there is deep significance in the fact that God is together with us.

122

To come forth believing in the Unification Church, you must cut off entirely the bonds of the satanic world. Yet loving parents and loving friends all opposed you.

123

Before you cut them off, they cut you off first. Thus, you have cut off family, tribe, and all the affairs of the world. And so you have been set upon a sorrowful and lonely road. That is why you must set up a new idea, a new ideology, to block this crisis.

124

Therefore, you must build up a new foundation, centered on a new ideology, on the external standard, that is, unbowing, however evil the world may be. God, too, has been preparing that.

125

Yet, despite this, when we look at your results until now, they are not much. In other words, God’s internal standard and you must become one and form the external world. Because we are to achieve this, we must do this work even while being persecuted.

126

This foundation, cultivated and centered on God’s absolute standard, cannot be exchanged for anything in all the world. Even if the world boasts loudly of its splendid and dazzling cultural sphere, you must not become a band that looks upon such things and drools. You must not think and see in a worldly way.

127

When you pray before God, you must become people who can console God, saying, “Father, we know that this has set out not from a place where Thou canst rejoice but from a reality where Thou canst not rejoice.” Thereby, you must leap over this situation into which the waves of love surge, and build an environment in which God, centered on the sons and daughters He loves, can enter the Kingdom of Heaven. You must know when that time is.

09Where Is the New Starting Point

128

Even today, you must have the conviction that you can absorb both the democratic and communist worlds whole and stride over them. Yet, when we look at young people these days, many are neither this nor that. This will not do.

129

You must consider that there remains the account of the han of the many prophets and martyrs of old who shed their blood to relieve God’s sorrow. To relieve this han, you must burn with righteous indignation. And you must have the mind to take up the sword of justice and bring this world into submission.

130

However much you may have no place to stay, be driven along in the ranks of refugees, and be trampled, you must set out holding such a mind. From here, a new heaven and earth set out.

131

The purpose for which Jesus came to the land of Israel was to achieve the ideal of the Providence and to make all of Israel become one. It was to raise the Israelite people, who were falling and dying, and, centered on the Messiah-thought, make them become one, to build the world of the Kingdom of Heaven.

132

Yet in the place of death, where lay the purpose for which he prayed, “Abba, Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me”?

133

If it were the people of the world, they would retreat when disadvantaged and merely give commands when advantaged; then, for what reason did Jesus, in anguish, come to pray, staking his life, crying, “Abba, Father!”?

134

It was because the fortune of Heaven and earth depended upon it, and because his view was different from that of the people of the world.

135

Because the world was not an environment and a foundation where God could dwell, he had to establish a new view and make a new foundation.

136

Even if he could not do it while alive, he was resolved to make it even in death. That is why Christianity has developed while shedding the blood of martyrdom. Everyone tries to live in a place they all like; then, for what reason would one try to die?

137

What is essentially more important?

138

The high authority of the world is not the issue. That by which one can boast of one’s own glory is unnecessary. What is more important is where I stand. That is, it is that one must win in the satanic world that arose through the Fall and go to God’s side.

139

The basis for this is in God. Yet not knowing this, people live as they please and then, in the end, say it is wrong. This is proof that, because humankind set out from the Fall caused by Satan’s unlawful invasion, it cannot walk the normal road.

140

We have restored this with tears and blood and sweat, but the people of the world have taken it by killing. That is, God has carried out the Providence by sacrificing the people closest to Him. Because of this, the loyal subjects on God’s side died, and the people God chose also died. Even Jesus, who came as God’s only begotten Son, died.

141

Because Satan sets up his external realm entirely centered on his children, God draws His conclusion with the internal realm, the hidden realm. Standing in such a position of God, the Unification Church does this work. It takes its place while passing through such a course of trial.

142

Now we do not go along merely liking one another among ourselves. Since we have come to know that God is together with us even amid Satan’s working, we must go on, night and day, even while being reviled. When we face the world, we must face it with the strategy God devises.

143

What is more important for you, and where is your starting point?

144

You are neither this nor that. Think about it. Could people from north of the 38th parallel, having crossed over to South Korea because they were displeased, then go and live again in the North?

145

Even a spy, once he has entered this land, cannot live without imitating the people of this land. And a person of the South likewise cannot go and live in the North. To cross over and live, one would have to die and be born again. Therefore, you must not love Jesus as a matter of strategy. Strategy is not originally such a thing. You must become one.

146

Then, where is your new starting point?

147

Of course, in going forward, centered on the purpose, responsibility, and struggle is important too, but even if you win, if the starting place is bad, Satan takes you away. So you must set out from the right place.

148

It was thought that if only the economy revived, the problems of the Republic of Korea would be solved, but since that alone will not do, they are now urging a so-called Second Economy, the arming of the spirit. Because the external side alone will not do, the inside and outside must be joined.

149

Therefore, democracy and communism must not fight. The two great systems representing the internal idealist thought and the external materialist thought must not fight. Even if there is fighting, the body and the mind cannot fight.

150

Because the first ancestors of humankind, through the Fall, sowed in such a way, they reaped in such a way; because the body and the mind were divided and the fight broke out, they reaped in such a way.

151

Yet the people who hold the public ideology that ought to gather and unify this situation of struggle must not be negligent, growing fat and wobbling along, wasting the years. You must know this clearly.

152

Only when we burn down entirely the house we lived in in the satanic world and stand in a place where God can rejoice can we build an ideal nation. This present age is an age that Satan can enjoy. That is what our life is.

153

We must not settle comfortably in such a sphere of life that Satan enjoys. We must cast off a habitual and conceptual life and form a new sphere of life that God pursues. Therefore, people who come to the Unification Church must know this clearly.

10Where Do You Belong

154

You must set up an internal standard, centered on God and agreeing with God, as firm as iron and stone.

155

Even if the forces of Satan surge in and you are about to die, you must become a person who can be recognized as having died fighting, resolved to die. You must not act by makeshift expedients, being neither this nor that.

156

Then, what is more precious?

157

Is where one belongs important? Even in the Republic of Korea, people argue over which faction and which faction. That is, the question of where one belongs.

158

Do you belong to the place for becoming one before God and the law of the heavenly way, before the position of God who looks upon this earth? To belong to such a place, you must have the Word, character, and heart. That is why God gave the Word of the Principle.

159

If you truly knew the Unification Church, think about it.

160

Is the Unification Church really a heresy?

161

The Unification Church is not a place that is vague and half-hearted.

162

The Teacher has passed through several decades of history until now. He did not set out on this road by chance upon hearing someone’s words as he passed along the street. Nor did he begin this work by being moved by some pastor. Nor is he walking this road because someone witnessed to him. Then, where is the starting point of that motive? It is God.

163

The Teacher has come forth until now, killing his personal dignity. This is an undeniable living result. Although the Teacher came forth from a position of denying and denying himself, he has experienced several times the case in which God said it was not so.

164

Centered on the Unification Church, internal matters are connected with the spiritual world. In that spiritual world live the countless spirit individuals who have come and gone upon the earth over the thousands of years until now. The good spiritual world under God, centered on God, and the Unification Church have become one side and are fighting Satan.

165

That is why, when you look at those who come into the Unification Church, most of them are people who have come having received a command from the spiritual world. Through such people, the work unfolds. People whom one has never heard of or seen in life appear spiritually and ask one to go to the Unification Church.

166

If one tries not to go, they scold one severely and discipline one. Why is this? It is because the time is urgent.

167

Such an internal bond of the spiritual world and the bond of the earth must become one, centered on God. They must become one centered on the Unification Church. This is not a supposition that it will probably be so; it is absolute. That is why the Teacher, centered on the Unification Church, is restoring the evil world. Because God is internal and man is external, we must harmonize the world, centered on goodness, not by force but autonomously.

168

You must strive to harmonize the world. That is, you must become priests who can unify the world. Despite this, many are not so.

169

If you go on struggling centered on the purpose, you will absolutely not waver even if you enter prison. When the Teacher was in prison, even though he said nothing and stayed still, those who followed the Teacher numbered more than several dozen. It was because they were assisted by the spiritual world.

170

From the spiritual world, it was taught, “Follow that man. Do you know who that man is?” Because it was under communist rule, though he said nothing, those who were in prison together knew at least something of what kind of person the Teacher was.

171

One’s own ancestor of several generations back, a grandfather, would appear and ask one to follow the Teacher. Not just once, but continually being made to do so, one could not help but come to follow the Teacher. Why does such a thing happen? Because otherwise the ancestors perish. You must know that.

11The Right Attitude of Mind Unification Believers Must Have

172

Though your activity may be hard and distressing, you must know the fact that behind you, many good-spirited individuals who uphold the absolute purpose of the Providence have been mobilized and are assisting. Therefore, when you go forth holding such a conviction, that is, the same conviction as the Teacher, you will absolutely not perish. Rather, the one who tells you to perish will perish.

173

Some time ago, I once took a tally of what became of the band that opposed the Teacher in the North. I found that they had all gone wrong. The person who does not obey before God perishes.

174

Therefore, one must obey God absolutely. What is more important is that only when the starting point is set right is the result right. That is, only when you sow good seed in spring can you reap and gather good fruit in the autumn. Therefore, if you go dancing about, wandering here and there within this violently changing world sphere, you will perish. All are set to perish.

175

We must fix our territory with the mind that says, “Just you wait, this world.” Even if any element of the externally opened democratic and communist worlds pulls at you, you must not be dragged along. Rather, you must be able to run head-on into it and pull it along.

176

Even if the authority of the world or anything else tempts you, you must be able to agree with the internal standard centered on the value of the ideal that God desires, within a sphere that has escaped from it. Anything in the world is not the issue.

177

You must become a person who pursues what is more valuable and grasps through experience (체휼) the heart (심정) of God, a person who realizes how vain are the authority and glory of the evil world, and who can hold a right point of departure.

178

Thereby, you must become a person who writhes with resolve to build the foundation of the Unification Church and to become a warrior of Heaven charging toward the enemy camp. This is the spiritual attitude that Unification believers must have. Yet many are utterly frivolous.

179

If you are going to boil porridge, you must clearly make it either bean porridge or red-bean porridge, one of the two.

180

Adam was to become one with God, centered on God’s Word. In the Garden of Eden, Adam was to become God’s house, that is, His temple. Accordingly, if that were achieved, God would become the internal God, and Adam would become the external God who governs all things. Adam’s becoming the external God does not mean that he becomes divided from God.

181

Had human beings been born as the body of God clothed with substance, all would have become the direct sons and daughters of God. Yet through Adam’s fall, they failed to become the children of God. To have fallen means that human beings became one with Satan. Internally, Satan entered, and externally they became the body of Satan, becoming the offspring of Satan.

182

Nevertheless, because the original nature has a standard that can come into contact with God’s absolute standard, even though the body has fallen, this standard remains in the mind.

183

Even if your body is Satan’s, your mind is centered on God. Therefore, God’s front-line outpost is the human conscience, and Satan’s front line is the human body.

184

Yet when God’s outpost and Satan’s front-line fight, again and again the conscience has lost. The conscience is like an outpost standing at the very edge of the land of the fallen world. The body is the front line of the satanic world. And in this fight, the conscience has lost to the body again and again. Nevertheless, centered on the ideology of religion, it has broadened the foundation of victory.

185

This world in which you live is a world that gives priority to the body. But the material and external alone will not do. Such a society alone will not do. That is why there must be a conscientious and moral ideology. The world must change.

186

Until now, the human mind, living together with the body, which is Satan’s front-line zone, has been fickle in countless ways. That is why no person asserts goodness, or good religion, that has not been sacrificed upon this earth.

187

Nevertheless, the breadth of the conscience has been broadened. Centered on the body and the mind, respectively, they have been divided into democracy and communism.

188

Even so, the democratic world stands at a standard closer to the mind. That is, when God looks, the mind symbolizes the democratic world, and the body symbolizes the communist world. That is why, centered on the aspect of the mind, that is, the standard of religion until now, the democratic world was born.

189

The fight between the body and the mind has formed such a world of results. When we consider such things, the goal of the Unification Church is neither the democratic world nor the communist world. These two worlds must be unified.

12Establish Your Subjectivity

190

The Teacher traveled around more than forty countries of the world and saw all the celebrated sights, yet he did not envy anything in the world. Such things are not the issue.

191

If one takes pleasure and boasts, holding the caps of worldly honor and glory, one perishes. To become so is a sign of perishing.

192

There must be people armed spiritually with the Unification thought, to boast of a religion that cannot be exchanged for anything in the world, of the original authority and original hope. Yet how many such people are there? Have you considered what you are to do in this violently agitated world of today? We must emphasize subjectivity. We must emphasize the source from which we came out upon this earth, and what our present position in which we stand is.

193

Because the high and precious thing we emphasize is what can be set forth and boasted of before God more than anything in the world, we must graft loving parents and brothers into the sphere of our ideology.

194

You must have the mind to keep this with a firm will resolved unto death. When each of you practices this, the Kingdom of Heaven can be built. You must not become a frivolous hodgepodge.

195

When the Teacher was in the Pyongyang prison, a rumor spread that he was a male shaman. Because before the other party spoke, the Teacher would know in advance and ask, “You fellow, you are the one who did such-and-such, aren’t you?” The rumor spread. When the communists heard such rumors, because the Teacher was, after all, fearsome, even during interrogation, more than three guards would stand watch.

196

When going from the Pyongyang prison into the Hungnam prison, the Teacher thought that such phenomena occur to bring about a certain result by which one can cross over from the satanic world to God’s world. He resolved that, even going to such a place, he would not reveal his true identity and would not change inside or out.

197

That Jesus Christ could become a lamp in all directions, before the whole world, within the breast of humankind, was because, even in an environment that controlled his very life, he broke through the barrier of death, holding a heart that would not be extinguished. That became the origin of today’s history and culture. That is, it became the origin that creates the cultural world.

198

You must know that the Unification Church also set out from such a foundation. You must become a person who, holding such Unification Church thought, is not indebted to the Unification Church. How will you die, and how will you live? Will you merely live a life that wanders back and forth and comes to nothing?

199

When the Teacher was in prison, he shared out much of his food and clothing. And so there were many who, without a word, said they would follow me. Even now, I long for that time. When people did not receive and did not heed the counsel of the spiritual world, many were spiritually beaten. And so those who said they would follow the Teacher numbered several dozen. I promised them that, since now all of South Korea had been recovered, they should all go down to South Korea and meet one another; but afterward, when I came to South Korea and looked, there was not a single fellow remaining.

200

The one whom I directly brought out from prison in the name of a disciple was only one person. That person had formerly worked at the county office in Hamhung, South Hamgyong Province. As we came out together, we stopped by his house in Hamhung, and I was given a meal.

201

At that time, I said to him, “Your parents are precious; what will you gain by regarding me as precious and following me?” but that person said his parents were not the issue. He said he would follow the Teacher wherever he went, and would die together with him even when it came time to die. Where have all such people gone now? There is no one remaining.

202

Afterward, I was staying in Pyongyang, and when the mother of the accounting chief here (Kim Won-pil) had gone out to trade, Chinese Communist shells kept falling. We had to set out to flee, but I could neither just come away leaving her to die there nor wait forever; so, having Mun Jeong-bin, who had come out from Hungnam together with me, wait for her, I set out first.

13Do Not Lose Your First Motivation, and Go Forward Holding Conviction

203

To believe in and follow the Teacher, you must come forth having formed a bond with God. Because the Teacher came forth in this way, those who come following the Teacher must also come forth holding such a mind. Because the principle of God, who assisted the Teacher, does not change, He will treat you by this principle. That is why I say: do not worry about food, do not worry about clothing, do not worry about dying, but go out and fight.

204

If you go and witness in some village or town, while there will be people who persecute you, on the contrary, there will also be people who take your side. At such a time, the one who takes your side can become a true friend. In this way, you must develop.

205

In today’s world-sphere, violently agitated between democracy and communism, in what position must one stand, believing in the Unification Church?

206

To restore the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, one must stand in the position of becoming one with the Word, centered on God, and attending God.

207

What Adam and Eve lost must be sought again. To recover this, one must be resolved to die. Even if the guns and swords of the enemy are before you, you must be resolved to die having sought and established what was lost. Even if you die, you must die having achieved that world.

208

When I look at you, there is truly much to say. You must become one with God, who has sought for six thousand years.

209

What is more precious and more important?

210

It is the starting point, the starting point. If you do not grasp the starting point well, however well you may do, it goes awry. Therefore, you must grasp the right direction from the starting point and, from the very first step, go toward that destination.

211

Even in an environment of misfortune where fierce storms rage, you must hold the conviction that you will overcome and go forward, and break through the difficulties. Only when you become one together with such conviction is an eternal world built. When such a purpose is achieved, you can enter the ideal Kingdom of Heaven.

212

The content that the Unification Church hoped for and came forth with in the seven-year course was truly great. The people of the Unification Church have carried out a mission like that of temporary laborers, to pave the road that the true person walks.

213

What is more precious is that you must not lose your motivation. To have your motivation grow dim will not do. All present trials and sufferings are not the issue. Compared with the glory to be received later, they are of no account. The Teacher knows all of your hardships. Yet he does not speak of them.

214

Since being born a human being and dying once is the same for all, the person who was loyal here will remain in history. He will shine for thousands and tens of thousands of ages, forever and ever, in the annals of history, as a wellspring of life. When I consider such things, I have never once regretted, even in a dream, that as a man I walk this road.

215

There is something from the time when the Teacher was in prison that even now is unforgettable. When all the people there gathered, they numbered several thousand; and when the door leading out of the prison was opened, there was an uproar.

216

When the door was opened, they all ran, each trying to go out first, and fell over one another. As for how many buildings there were, there were six wards (六舍), all connected. There were people older than the Teacher and young people who had eaten less.

217

When such people ran out, each trying to live, if they collided, they were crushed to death. There was no way to survive. Legs were broken, and all sorts of people were there.

218

Even amid such a scene, many followed the Teacher. Those people would slip past the guards’ eyes, push through the crowd, and always come to greet the Teacher in the morning. Then the Teacher would pass right by, pretending not to notice. Yet, because they missed the sight of the Teacher, after sleeping just one night, they would come again.

219

The people there would drool at the sight of food. That is how the situation went. There, everyone made an uproar trying to eat alone. Even so, when a bit of food such as roasted grain powder came their way, they would wrap it in newspaper and hide it in all sorts of places to give it to the Teacher.

220

Was that a dirty thing, or a gift?

221

If such a hidden thing was discovered, one was in for a beating. There, lunch was eaten at twelve o’clock.

222

Sharing out that roasted grain powder is even now unforgettable. I have not once since felt such a taste as at that time. God must know the heart of that time, when we shared everything.

223

At that time, those people yearned for the Teacher intensely. When they died, even if those people could not meet me, they would surely have left their sons and daughters the dying wish, “There will be a certain Teacher Moon in South Korea; go and find him.”

224

Such a living history exists in the Unification Church. If the people who believe in the Unification Church live holding such a mind, God cannot but make them into His very own position. Yet you do not know this well.

225

If you are a Unification believer, something about you must be different.

14The Road of Restoration Is a Road of Destiny We Cannot but Take

226

As Elijah was going along the road, he asked the widow of Zarephath for a mouthful of water to drink. Though she was seeing him for the first time, she went to fetch water. And though it was a time of famine, she did not refuse Elijah’s request for bread but brought and gave him all the food that she herself had to eat. She had the mind of a chosen people, centered on God.

227

The Unification Church, in that respect, must make a new age, a new heaven, a new world. Just as when Elijah lamented, “I, even I only, am left,” God comforted him by letting him know that there was a band of seven thousand who had not bowed to Baal, so it is with the road the Unification Church goes. The road the Unification Church goes is such a road. The bands that have gathered into this Unification Church, standing in the same position as the band of seven thousand, are precisely you. You are a splendid band.

228

From now on, we must set out on the Second Seven-Year Course. You must, without fail, set out on this course of Restoration. This is because there remains an inevitable road that must be crossed searching for conditions.

229

For this, a figure is needed, a period is needed, and a conditional object is needed. This is not something you can appoint as you please. It is something jointly appointed before humankind within a fixed period. This is a historic responsibility.

230

Moreover, as long as there remain human beings who must be restored upon this earth, unto thousands and tens of thousands of generations, the seven-year course remains.

231

If you cannot go, then your descendants, that is, thousands and tens of thousands of your descendants, must go this road. It is the same for the Blessed Families of the Unification Church. Though they received the Blessing, they have not yet been registered in Heaven. Because they have not been registered, their descendants are also all in the same destiny.

232

Because one cannot but go this road, the Teacher, when he first set out on this road, thought about it more than one can know. He is a person who has shed blood and sweat for the sake of this road, staked his life and prayed, and offered his whole life.

233

Because this road is, in any case, a road of destiny that one cannot but take, it cannot be avoided. Having gathered it up and shortened it, and having searched by every means for a road by which you can go to the Father with a little less effort and without being wounded, the Teacher then tells you to go.

234

Since the Teacher goes at the head, in the position of a leader, on that road, you have only to follow behind.

235

It is the mind of a master to resolve the road of the cross and the difficult barriers and to show you the most comfortable road. The band that regards one like me as an enemy will be struck by lightning. Yet there are many such bands. They are fellows who deserve to be struck dead by lightning.

236

When you entered the Unification Church, you entered without caring about dying or living. You were also not afraid of the rumors that spread through the village and town.

237

Where is your starting point, holding such a resolve?

238

Who are your ancestors? Seen from this viewpoint, in the Unification Church, the Teacher is the ancestor of faith.

239

We must confront the world of the enemy, centered on a traditional standard and firm conviction. The Second Seven-Year Course, too, we must go without flinching. Though it is hard, we cannot collapse from exhaustion. The Teacher has never slept in a position where he could rest comfortably.

240

Centered on such a standard, in the position of the ancestor of faith, he goes down this road. How many people can there be who can be confident that they have stood at such a standard?

241

Had the first ancestors of humankind set up a good point of departure in the Garden of Eden, centered on God, this world would have become a world of goodness. Yet because they set up a wrong point of departure for history, it has become a miserable reality.

242

You must realize that your forefathers walked forth writhing and shedding tears of han, and so you must go on relieving all the han of your forefathers. You must advance toward the Kingdom of Heaven of hope, holding the conviction that you will surely avenge, that is, that you will relieve the han of your forefathers.

243

You ought to be frantic for fear that you will fail to fulfill your responsibility here. Despite this, many do not even think of such things. Many bands say they will settle into their present position, nurture their dreams, and live.

244

Are such bands the band that says it will follow God?

245

Acting in this way, there is not the slightest hope.

246

You must kick off from the enemy’s foundation and come out. You are placed in a destiny in which you must do the work of connecting the ship (fallen human beings), which remains amid death, to the sea (the good world), having sought a new center.

247

You must do this work until you die. Since autumn draws near, we have the mission of hauling the ship of the desert and guiding it to the sea before winter comes.

248

This is the destiny of the Unification Church and its mission. Yet, resting all one wants, eating, dressing, playing, and sleeping, when will you do it? Do you think you will do it with what is left over? There is not the slightest hope. It is grave and urgent.

15What Is More Important Is Not the Flesh but the Spirit

249

Viewed nationally, the next three years are the crisis. Even if North Korea launches an all-out war, since it is now July, in a month and a half, by August and September, the leaves will fall. Then the grave time will pass.

250

Because the Teacher knew such a destiny of the nation, he made a grim resolve. It is that these miserable people must be saved. That is why you must bear the responsibility and wage a tear-stained fight. You must know that. The Teacher is thinking of that which does not even know the nation or the world.

251

From childhood, the Teacher has had a history of struggling, centered on this mission, harboring an indignant heart centered on God while others slept. That is why the Teacher, staking the grave destiny of the people, is offering devotion before God even though no one acknowledges it.

252

Therefore, we ask only that this August pass safely. Then, centered on this August, we can connect through to the 1970s.

253

At that time, what must we do?

254

Because you of the Republic of Korea cannot fulfill the responsibility, we intend to set up the Japanese to fulfill it. The Teacher is thinking of unfolding a second strategy that lays a bridge to Japan in that way. So it is astounding. You must offer still more devotion.

255

When Kuboki, the Japanese association president, came to the Teacher and asked, “How would it be if, during this forty-day witnessing period, we launched a concentrated offensive centered on Tokyo?” I said, “Tokyo is not the issue. Tokyo is only one part of Japan. To be loyal for the purpose, we must educate them centered on all of Japan.” I said that nearly one hundred million lives of all Japan must be saved. I said we must not set as our goal only the ten million lives of Tokyo.

256

So the Teacher commanded them to unfold the purpose nationwide. I said that, win or lose, after unfolding it nationwide, one must, even while shedding tears of blood, grasp through experience the heart (심정) of God. I asked them to move in earnest, proclaiming the Principle of unification with such a heart.

257

That is why one must not remain only at Headquarters. Even though Japan differs from us in historical background and level of culture, because its heart is one, you must, in your attitude of daily life, become of one accord and unified with them.

258

Therefore, this forty-day period is important. Because a good time has come when a new world can be pioneered, each of you must fulfill your responsibility.

259

What is important is that you, who must set out because the time has come, must equip yourselves with the right attitude. And what is more important is to know the historic han of perishing humankind and to take responsibility for it.

260

When we consider the flesh and the spirit self, what is more important?

261

It is not the flesh but the spirit. The flesh lives within a sphere of time and a sphere of limits of seventy to eighty years and then vanishes, but the spirit has the authority to transcend the sphere of time and even the sphere of space. Therefore, to realize one’s historic responsibility and fulfill that responsibility is the true intention of a human being.

262

However well you may live centered on the physical body, eventually, you die. In any case, the physical body is set to die. That is how it is set. Then, between the spiritual standard and the physical standard, which is more important?

263

We do not live centered on the physical standard. The flesh exists for the sake of the spirit, and the spirit for the sake of the flesh. You must not cling to the same position in which the people of the world live.

264

From the position of having saved the flesh, you must equip yourselves with the substance in which spirit and flesh are joined and set out from a more worthwhile place.

265

Although this is the road that you who hold the Unification ideology must go, many think that living centered on the physical body is important. Yet all that is set to be caught on conditions.

16Unless You Practice According to the Word, It Cannot Become Your Own

266

The Teacher came forth bearing this mission from childhood. Neither the friends who lived with him nor anyone else knew it. Even when the Teacher set out and was conveying the Word, people did not know.

267

The people who met the Teacher in the North, now meeting again, say with regret, “Oh! If only I had heard all the Word of the Principle at that time.” They did not know it would turn out like this. It is the same even now.

268

Even if you have heard all the content and purpose, unless you first practice according to the Word, it cannot become your own. In other words, if you have heard, in the Unification Church, the theory of the Fall that the Teacher expounds, you yourself must pass through the position of Adam.

269

If it is Noah, you must pass through the position of Noah. You must know what circumstances Noah had, and you must know all about what Abraham was like and what Moses was like.

270

Jesus knew such content less than I do. That is why the Teacher knows well what the heart (심정) of the human being that was pursued in the Garden of Eden is like.

271

If someone were to say to one like me, “Your heart is like this, isn’t it?” I would burst into loud weeping. Yet until now, I have not met a person who could do so. This heart is known only by God.

272

When the Teacher considers that, though he worked for the sake of the nation, he was, on the contrary, persecuted, he is filled with the utmost indignation. Even now, when he thinks such thoughts, there is nothing to save and nothing to leave in the world. To the Teacher, who must relieve such han, parents and relatives are not the issue, and children are not the issue.

273

Resolutely, from a place for the sake of the Cosmos, he must leave behind the motive and the wellspring by which everything can be overcome. He must stand in such a position. Before you, upon the road you go, such a course lies stretched out.

274

You must cross over this and equip yourselves with the figure of sons and daughters who praise the glory of God and praise the fact that the Lord who came and went was Thou. You must know this.

275

God has endured countless sorrows over the six thousand years until now, and has come forth harboring a han that would find no end even if He lamented to all the people of all ages.

276

Yet because I came to know that God is not a God who wails aloud, that He came forth harboring such a heart, the Teacher too does not speak of the Teacher’s own account.

277

You who thus follow a master who goes forth harboring a heart more sorrowful than anyone's and more lonely than anyone's must consider whether the attitude of life you take and all the content of the life you live have become selves that can stand righteously before God.

278

You must know that, when the Teacher considers it, there are many people whose attitude cannot be forgiven. You must once again seek the standard by which you can stand righteously before God.

279

You must once again seek the original standard, full of han, that the human ancestors lost in the Garden of Eden. This is the standard of hope that the many prophets and martyrs longed for, and the standard that all people longed for together with the han of lamentation. Jesus, too, died for the sake of this.

280

For the sake of this, God too has come forth lamenting, over six thousand years, receiving every kind of hardship and every kind of ridicule. When you consider that the key that can resolve such han all at once is in your hands, what is there to spare, and what is there to hesitate over?

281

To relieve such han, you must resolutely cast away everything you have held until now. You have nothing whatsoever. Do not boast that you are a family member of the Unification Church. Do not boast that you sit in the seat of the president, I say.

282

In whatever position you may be, if there is a road by which the purpose can be achieved a day sooner and humankind of the world can live, you must blow yourself up in that place. There is no other way.

283

The Teacher has already lived such a life and, setting such a goal, is going forward. That is why, even when I say such words before you, I feel no reproach of conscience.

17Bear in Mind That This Is a Grave Moment

284

God is notifying, through spiritually attuned people, that they should form a relationship with the Teacher of the Unification Church. Yet how did it come about that I must meet such a band and do this work?

285

How did it come about that I must haul out such routed remnants and do this work?

286

The astonishing historic things the Teacher has sought must not be used as one pleases. They must be gathered as God’s own. Despite this, when I see people who become the sacrifices of Satan and do their work, I feel that they deserve to become food for eagles.

287

Nevertheless, because I know the heart of God, who endured even while looking upon such human beings, I go on, being beaten more, suffering more hardship, shedding more blood and sweat, shedding even one more drop of tears, and, though weary, not resting.

288

As long as heat remains in me and strength remains, I endure and go forward. Because I know that once one has begun to love the nation, one has the responsibility to love the nation to the end even if the nation perishes, and because I have come to know that one must love the disciples who follow even if they betray, I endure and go silently forward.

289

Greeting the grave age of the Second Seven-Year Course, before such a critical instant in which, if things go wrong, the misfortune of the nation can settle in, the misfortune of the world can settle in, and the misfortune of providential history can settle in, though we ought to draw our swords and go out to fight, you must know that ours is a pitiful position in which we cannot even draw our swords.

290

We must set out centered on what is more important and push through the environment of sin. Centered on such a purpose, we must become figures who can say with confidence, “I came, I fought.”

291

We must become selves who can cry out before God that we came forth harboring a thousand-year han to greet this day, and that we sought the road of a thousand hardships and myriad tribulations for the sake of this.

292

We must become Unification believers who say that, even if we die, we will die holding on to the Father’s hand. Despite this, there are many good-for-nothing fellows.

293

Now an age has come when we must set out anew.

294

What is precious in the Unification Church?

295

What is precious is that we can relieve the han of the wrong departure. The standard of hope by which this han can be relieved, by which Heaven and earth can agree, is not you as an individual entity. Beyond the individual, you must fulfill the mission that can connect the entire nation of the whole world.

296

Until this mission is accomplished, the Teacher has walked, holding the conviction that he will remain to the end and pioneer this road, even risking death. It is not that he came forth staking the Teacher’s personal goal.

297

Therefore, you must take part in this road, and if along this road there is something you regard as more precious, you must follow it even unto death. Otherwise, who can gather the world of sin? You yourselves must gather it up and be able to handle the world.

298

You must become the matrix that can embrace and integrate democracy and communism. To do so, you must not hold a self-centered mind. You must go forward with the same conviction as the Teacher.

299

If you do so, there is no law by which you perish. Nevertheless, sacrifice is needed here. A person who does not know this and, having heard a few words, giggles with delight, does not even count as a person.

300

Holding what is more precious, what is more important, and centering your life on it, you must live. You must live a life busy with external preparation. Thereby you must resolve, “I will surely accomplish the salvation of the world.” Can you do so? A person who goes east when the satanic world goes east, and goes west when the satanic world goes west, wandering back and forth, absolutely will not do.

301

You must hold an unchanging conviction, and clearly know from where you will set up your point of departure and what kind of place your intended destination is.

302

You must clearly know that, from such a position, you cannot but pass through the forty days centered on the standard you have set up. You understand, do you not? “Yes.”

18The History of Restoration Centered on the Number Seven

303

God created human beings on the sixth day, which is the number six. The number seven is the number of the Sabbath, but because human beings fell, this number seven was lost. That is why the people on this earth today cannot keep the Sabbath.

304

Because the number seven was lost, God, extending one day into a thousand years, seeks and establishes the number six through a history of six thousand years, and comes forth seeking the number seven, the number of the Sabbath, through a history of seven thousand years.

305

What is thus sought is the Kingdom of Heaven, the hope of Christianity. It is the millennial Kingdom of Heaven. It is the history of Restoration for human beings to seek the number six through six thousand years, to seek and complete the number seven through seven thousand years, and to seek their way again into the span of the number eight, at which they make a new departure.

306

Through the Fall of human beings, everything created in the six days of creation, that is, from the first day to the sixth day, was lost. Because of human beings, everything was lost. God carries out the Providence through a history of six thousand years to seek this again.

307

Centered on these six thousand years, it crosses over into a history of seven thousand years. Christianity asserts a millennial kingdom, but one day can become a thousand years. The millennial kingdom refers to a worldwide sphere of resurrection.

308

Only after passing through such a history, having attained the sphere of the Sabbath, can one finally attend God and receive recognition as a son and daughter. In other words, it is to have the Sabbath in which one can take part in God’s joy.

309

The Sabbath is not a day for resting comfortably and sleeping. Though people take the Sabbath to be sleeping, the Sabbath refers to becoming one with God, taking part in God’s joy, and expressing joy. Therefore, when one goes to the spiritual world and, centered on God, achieves the Kingdom of Heaven, it becomes an eternal Sabbath.

310

Because God’s love began in eternity and exists eternally, it becomes an eternal Sabbath. Because human beings are the ones who lost such a Sabbath, not only human beings but also the Teacher and God have lost the Sabbath.

311

Though God has come forth centered on a history of seven thousand years, every religion comes forth walking seven hundred years. When the fortune of seven hundred years greets its time, three times seven is twenty-one (3×7=21), and it comes forth as a fortune of two thousand years. That is why the history of the Old Testament was two thousand years, and a history of two thousand years followed. At each stage, it is without fail renewed and changed.

312

Thus, centered on God, it is the walking of a road of seven-thousand-year han, and religion goes centered on a history of seven hundred years. Therefore, had Christianity done well, the Second Advent of Jesus would also have been achieved within a period of seven hundred years. That is how it is set.

313

Religion can go forward centered on a fortune of seven hundred years. Centered on a fortune of seven hundred years, it develops through seven stages. The chosen prophets come forth individually, bearing a fortune of seventy years.

314

God accordingly must go a road of seven-thousand-year han, religion must go a road of seven-hundred-year han, and human beings must go a road of the human life of seventy-year han.

315

Then, how must one go down the road of the human life of seventy han?

316

One must not carry on married life freely. Because one must go the road of han, one must not carry on married life. Because that is what God most does not desire, one must live a single life for seventy years. That is why the higher a religion, the more it asserts a single life.

317

The fortune of seventy years is the issue. Upon the foundation built by passing through the fortune of seventy years until now, the Lord is set to come. Then, what will the Lord do when he comes? Coming to this earth, he shortens the fortune of seventy years to seven years.

318

If this were made seven months ago, how would that be?

319

With seven months, one cannot well know. Seven years is, in a person’s age, seven years old. Even so, the standard at which words can be trusted must be seven years. That is why the road of seven-thousand-year han was shortened to seven hundred years by the coming forth of religion; the fortune of 700 years was shortened to seventy years, and the fortune of seventy years, by the coming of the one time of hope, is shortened to seven years. You understand? “Yes.”

320

What is the Fall?

321

Losing the number seven is the Fall. By losing the number seven, they failed to form the Four Position Foundation. And because they failed to form the Four Position Foundation, they failed to form the three-position foundation (삼위기대).

322

The three-position foundation must receive the Blessing. Because through the Fall they failed to receive the Blessing, they failed to form the three-position foundation of the Holy Father, the Holy Son, and the Holy Spirit.

323

Therefore, to form the number seven through the history of Restoration, one must first form the number four. Without the foundation of the number four, one cannot seek the number three.

324

That is why, to make restoration through indemnity, there must be a central figure, there must be a conditional object, and there must be a period. This is an iron rule. Because this is so, the teacher, too, obeys this law.

325

If it is not done in seven years, one must pass through three stages. Is that not so? That is why what was to take seven years took twenty-one years. Last year, the twenty-one-year course was completed.

19To Save the World, One Must Become a Family-Level Messiah

326

Then, can you of the Unification Church decide the central figure, the conditional object, and the period?

327

Can the Teacher decide them as he pleases? They cannot be decided. It is that the law of the heavenly principle is set in that way. Today, the door by which all people upon this earth can go before God at any time must be entirely opened. Because it will not do otherwise, we do this work.

328

When has this work been carried out?

329

It is a seven-year course. Only in the seven-year course is this permitted. If one cannot go through the seven years, one cannot become the Abel who stands in for Adam. Believing in the Unification Church does not make everyone Abel. Each of you must have a period in which you can decide the Abel-type ideology and the Abel-type position.

330

Every one of you must pass through the seven-year course. That human beings lost the number seven and failed to form the Four Position Foundation, and so failed to receive the Blessing from God, is a han. Therefore, to seek the number seven, one must seek the number four, and one must seek the number three. All of these must be sought.

331

To seek the central figure at the foundation of faith, one must seek the number seven; to seek the period, one must set up the number forty. And one must set up the number three, which is the conditional object. That is why, even in Adam’s family, three generations were passed through with three sons, and Noah’s ark too had three stories. Everything unfolded in the number three. Jesus, too, had to set up the number forty.

332

Centered on the seven-year course, everything had to be fitted together up to the age of forty. Then seven years from age twenty to twenty-six, seven years from twenty-seven to thirty-three, seven years from thirty-three to forty; in this way he had to walk a twenty-one-year parental course.

333

From age twenty to age forty, reckoned by Korean age, is twenty-one years. At the full age of forty, one must restore the number forty.

334

For the Messiah to appear as the Savior of all people, he must pass through the seven-year course and set up the number forty. That is, Jesus, too, had to set up the number forty over forty years. Jesus had to become one with the nation of Israel by the age of thirty-three, and by the age of forty had to seize the initiative of the world.

335

Jesus came holding such a numerical secret. Everything fitted numerically, but because the Israelite people failed to become one, there came to be nothing at all accomplished upon the earth. That is why Jesus had to seek and set up three conditional objects. These conditional objects are the three disciples. That is, you must clearly know that they are the three sons of faith.

336

Peter, James, and John, who followed at the time Jesus set out on his purpose, were originally not related to Jesus. Yet Jesus came forth, centered on such worthless ones, standing in for four thousand years of history.

337

Originally, he was to set out centered on the prepared priests and scribes, but because they disbelieved, he set out on the three-year public course centered on these. And in the end, Christianity developed centered on the Gentiles.

338

When he lost all the prepared people, he had no choice but to come forth centered on lowly fishermen. Two thousand years ago, fishermen were the lowest of people who did not even count as human beings. When he came to stand in the position where John the Baptist was betrayed, and the family of Joseph betrayed, the foundation of the Providence that had come forth centered on the people was all lost.

339

The Unification Church has gathered and come forth to seek and set up this again. The Teacher proclaimed the seven-year course centered on the 1960s. Jesus, too, failed to proclaim the seven-year course. The Teacher, too, had to proclaim these seven years at the age of thirty-three and complete them at the age of forty. Yet because that was not done, there remains, in the days ahead, a seven-year great tribulation for Christianity. Christians do not know this.

340

For you to become the sons and daughters of God, must you be superior to Jesus, or inferior?

341

Being inferior, you cannot become the sons and daughters of God. Did Jesus become a son who received God’s love, or did he not? As an individual Messiah, one cannot save the world. To save the world, one must become a family-level Messiah.

342

Therefore, he must receive the Holy Spirit and set up the ideology of the Holy Father, the Holy Son, and the Holy Spirit. He must form a family in the name of the bridegroom and bride. To form such a family, the foundation was cultivated spiritually, and now the day for it to actually come about must be greeted. That day is the day of the marriage of the Lamb. That is, the day Jesus marries and holds the feast is the day of the marriage feast of the Lamb. Established Christians must clearly know this.

20The Lord at the Second Advent Comes as a Parent

343

God dislikes fallen people, and Satan too hates them. Satan, too, dislikes the fallen Adam and Eve. If Satan were to love this humankind, the law of love would be set to return to God.

344

Satan violated Eve, whom he originally must not have loved, and trampled upon God’s heart. Therefore, human beings did not have true ancestors. That is, they did not have ancestors on God’s side. Therefore, humankind is not people on God’s side but people on Satan’s side. Upon this earth, there was no person on God’s side. Yet Jesus came as a person on God’s side. That is why Jesus came as the ancestor of humankind.

345

The ancestor of humankind refers to the father of humankind. Yet a father alone cannot bear children. Can he bear them or not? That is why there must be a mother of humankind. Thus, the mother and father of humankind become the True Ancestors. Yet because the human ancestors fell and became false ancestors, they perished. Therefore, true ancestors must arise again. Only through the true ancestors can one return before God.

346

With what qualification did Jesus come?

347

He came as a father. He came as the True Father of humankind, that is, as the True Ancestor. Yet he does not come bringing the True Mother with him. Because originally human beings had the True Mother taken away by Satan, one must, even if resolved to die, take her back from the satanic world.

348

When the Lord comes in the Last Days and greets the bride, the bride is liberated.

349

Yet, though a women’s movement is arising today in the advanced nations, there is no center within it. Because there is no center, Jesus, who is the center, must come again.

350

If Jesus had come to human beings with only the mission of a savior as a brother, then even if Jesus did not come again, the work of the savior as a brother could continue endlessly upon this earth. But because he must carry out the mission of a father, Jesus must come again. Because there cannot be two fathers, he must without fail come again.

351

Would there be any fallen human being awaiting a savior who would say he wishes his cousin, an elder brother, or a neighborhood cousin-brother were the savior, and ask that a neighborhood cousin-brother be sent as the savior? Because closer than a cousin-brother is one’s own elder brother, one would say, “Please send my own elder brother as the savior.”

352

Jesus originally had to witness first to his family. In fact, the family of Joseph, as descendants of David, were all blessed descendants. That is why, had Joseph and Mary of Joseph’s family cooperated, John the Baptist would automatically have come over. Because that did not happen, Jesus was driven out by the people, driven out by the tribe, driven out by the religious body, driven out by the family, and even his disciples came to disbelieve. It was an astounding thing.

353

In this way, Jesus walked the three-year public course full of han until his death. Jesus, having lost all the people of authority that God had prepared over four thousand years, came forth centered on the lowly fishermen Peter, John, and James, his three disciples.

354

Because the family of Adam, the ancestor of humankind, was destroyed, this must be restored. Jesus had to come in the place of the unfallen Adam. That is why Jesus is the one who came as the second Adam. Because Adam, the first ancestor of humankind, became a fallen ancestor, God sent Jesus as a true ancestor who had not fallen to establish the original purpose.

355

Centered on such a true ancestor, Adam’s family must be sought. Centered on Adam’s family, one must connect through to the family of Noah, the twelfth generation. All twelve generations must be fitted together.

356

In the fallen family of Adam, for Adam and Eve to be restored, Cain and Abel must be restored on their behalf. Yet because they were not restored but all perished, could their parents be restored?

357

That is why Jesus, who came as the latter Adam, could not but die. Viewed in terms of the Principle, it is set in that way.

21The Reason the Unification Church Gives the Blessing

358

After his death, Jesus, escaping Satan’s right of accusation and rising in resurrection, set up the twelve disciples centered on the three disciples. Thus, Jesus became a spiritual ancestor. He could become no more than a spiritual ancestor.

359

What thus achieved a worldwide foundation spiritually is Christianity, the Second Israel. Therefore, when the Lord comes again to this earth, he comes not spiritually, but in the flesh, that is, as substance. Thus, centered on spirit and flesh, he must set up the Four Position Foundation and the three-position foundation.

360

Therefore, you of the Unification Church must set up the conditions for the foundation of faith, centered on God, and settle the matter. To become a person who has decided on victory there, you must work centered on the period of the number seven.

361

Next, you must pass through the forty days of indemnity. If there is no forty-day period of indemnity, you must seek and set up the number three conditionally. Such a historic indemnity is needed.

362

Yet because, without the number seven, the number four cannot exist, and without the number four, the number three cannot exist, God carries out the Providence in reverse. God, centered on the number three, forms the Four Position Foundation and comes forth seeking the number seven.

363

Therefore, upon the foundation on which God has come forth, centered on the number three, Jesus must come, seek the family, and form the Four Position Foundation. He must form the Four Position Foundation, that is, the family.

364

Centered on the number three of the three-position foundation, he seeks the Four Position Foundation and sets up the number seven. God seeks His way in this manner.

365

That is why, in the Unification Church, we go in reverse. That is, within the sphere of the number seven, we set up the number four and seek the number three. Seen in this way, for fallen human beings, the seven-year period is absolutely necessary. You must know this.

366

Jesus belonged to the clan of Joseph. At that time, the Israelites did not treat them as human beings. They were a clan belonging to the servant class. From such a position, Jesus had to set out.

367

Then, what was to be done within the sphere of the family?

368

The twelve tribes had to be organized. Thereby, all the Israelite tribal chiefs, centered on the sphere of the people, had to be rallied. The various tribal chiefs of Israel had to bear witness to Jesus, and the scribes, and John the Baptist, who was a prophet, too, had to attend and follow Jesus.

369

Yet the Jewish people were lost, the Jewish religious body was lost, and the tribe of Joseph was lost. That is, kin, clan, and people were all lost. Originally, the relatives of Joseph were all to become disciples, centered on Jesus.

370

If today Christians accept the purpose of the Unification Church, Christianity will not perish. But the Christianity that opposes the Unification Church perishes. It becomes just the same as when the clan of Joseph and the Israelite people perished for failing to attend Jesus.

371

Because the Israelite people failed to attend to Jesus, Jesus lost his three chief disciples and the one hundred twenty followers. What set up the standard by which this could be sought again spiritually is the descent of the Holy Spirit in the upper room at Pentecost. This became the condition by which what had been lost could be sought again.

372

By this, the band of one hundred twenty followers became one and set up a standard of re-recognition centered on the Jewish people. From here, the world of spiritual Israel opened up. Thereby the han of the apostles, who were to accomplish the purpose without dying, centered on that people, must be relieved. And the han of the seventy followers and the one hundred twenty followers must be relieved.

373

Originally, Jesus, coming to this earth as the savior, was not to be driven out by the clan of Joseph. He was not to leave home. How good it would have been had John the Baptist followed Jesus! That is why, for you to become the sons and daughters of God, you must not become the sons and daughters of God from the same position as Jesus.

374

Jesus had to be able to form the ideology of bridegroom and bride and be embraced in the bosom of God. Only then could the fall of Adam and Eve as the ancestors of humankind be completely restored. Because the two fell, the two must be restored. That is why, in the Unification Church, there is the Blessing.

375

Jesus, without dying, was to form the bond of bridegroom and bride and, upon the earth, in the name of God, give the Blessing to the twelve disciples, the seventy followers, and the one hundred twenty followers. He was not to die and give the Blessing spiritually. Yet because Jesus failed to achieve this and, being opposed and driven out, died, han remains.

376

Because this must be resolved substantially, Teacher Moon of the Unification Church has been doing this work in his stead until now.

377

From 1960, what an uproar there was! The whole church and thirty million people opposed him. Yet on the contrary, he has loved them. Human beings were born as the children of Satan.

378

Though they are human beings in the satanic world, they must be loved. This is because the reason the archangel came to fall was that he felt a diminished sense of love; therefore, one must not love only the sons and daughters on God’s side.
